This has been a long time coming. Since last I wrote, my life has changed dramatically. Instead of going off to George Mason University, I moved back home. My mom revealed to me that she has stage three thyroid cancer. I quickly decided that spending time with my mom and helping to care for her was more important than going to the school of my dreams. I've moved back home now and settled in and have just gotten internet. (My parents didn't see the internet as important-- how horrible!)
I can now give my first beauty box review for the month of July.
The box is from Julep, and each member is called a Maven. It's a $20/month subscription, but in each box you can get either two bottles of nail polish and a full-sized beauty product, three bottles of nail polish, or two full sized beauty products. You fill out a beauty survey to determine your style profile and then they'll recommend a beauty box type for you. My first month I received Classic With A Twist.
In this month's box, I received a pedi cream, a red nail polish titled Claudette and a nude color titled Helen. There is a bonus thrown in each month, and July's bonus was a glycolic hand scrub with apricot seeds in it.
When you open the box, there's a few pieces of paper, welcoming you to the subscription program, and one describing your fashion style. Beneath that and on top of a bed of paper crinkles are your beauty products. The nail polish comes in this cute little bag and wrapped in bubble wrap. They really do make it as shipment safe as possible.
The nail polish, at first just looks like your run of the mill nail polish, but it has great staying power, even for a barista who uses her hands all day long. It lasted without chipping for five days. It goes on quite smoothly and dries in about five minutes. It has a nice shine even without a top coat.
The Mint Condition Pedi Cream is so smooth, and minty, it feels so refreshing on your feet after a long day at work. It's a cucumber-mint cream that helps to smooth the rough edges and moisturize quickly. The pedi cream contains shea butter, coconut oil, essential oils, vitamin E and a fast-acting alpha hydroxy acid (AHA) . The only issue with the cream is that there are AHAs in it that can increase your risk of sunburn, so it is recommended that you apply sunscreen and limit the sun exposure for a week afterwards. It's perfectly fine to use on the softer skin on the top of your feet as well as the coarser skin of your heels and underside of your feet.
I am all in all very pleased with the Julep Maven box, and will continue to subscribe to it, as it is one of the best ways to get new full-sized beauty products, especially if you're not sure that you want to purchase a new item. Given the opportunity, I would purchase the pedi cream, as it's a great product and really does do as described on the packaging.
If you're interested in signing up, use this link. It'll help me with the rewards program, and you'll get a code to get your first box free!
Anywho, that's it for now. I'll try to get the August box up soon. Leave any comments you have and I'll get to them as soon as I can. I'll be more reliable now that I have internet again.
